Piggle's May 6, 2026, Farrowing

I found the farrowing! Piggle farrowed on May 6, 2026. She gave birth to 12, three didn't make it past the first few hours. But the remaining nine include the mysterious death of The White Weaner and epic survival of the The Runt.

Which makes The Runt 12 weeks old as of today.

The Weaner's Mysterious Death

I went looking for The Runt's farrowing, but found this first and is does tangentially relate to The Runt. Once this weaner died, I became worried that the piglets might be sick so I watched them closely thinking The Runt would be the first to succumb to Axiom I.

The deadliest time for a piglet is the first 72 hours. If they make it past that, they usually survive, unless they get stepped on and crushed. But by the time they start weaning at six weeks, they're usually in the clear. Which makes this girls death odd; she was healthy, growing, and gorgeous (she was the pure white one from Piggle's litter).

The Runt

I think these guys are about ten weeks old. The size difference between The Runt and the rest of the litter is staggering.

I am actually astounded that this little guy has made it this long. The littles have wanted me to bottle feed it, the wife has suggested putting it out of its misery, while I decided to just let pigs be pigs.

13 Turkeys

After seven ducklings were born earlier this week, a turkey hen hatched 13 poults and emerged from her nest today. this hen had been gone so long I actually thought she was dead. We'll how many survive and if we can then fatten them up enough before Thanksgiving.

Day 2 of Ducklings

Day two of ducklings and I've realized I don't know the difference between Puddles and Autzen. But even with the hens being temperamental, all seven ducklings are still alive. And I tracked the still broody hen back to her nest; so I now know where she's holing up, but still no idea of when they'll hatch.

And since Mini-Squatch I is currently at camp, I thought I would try to document the babies for her. Hopefully this story has a happy ending . . .

The Ducklings Hatched!

The Ducklings finally hatched today. Currently there are seven little quackers. There were still at least two eggs left in her nest, but I don't think she's been back them.

Before leaving for Texas one of the kids tried to convince me that baby ducklings could drown. Well they seem to be swimming just fine. They almost had me for a second.

Doomscroll Outside

"There is only one adventurer in the world, as can be seen very clearly in the modern world, the father of a family."

True. There is nothing more boring than being a father left home alone for two weeks. Chores are done in two minutes and they stay done . . . leaving plenty of time to doomscroll as another screen flickers woke streaming slop in the background.

No more!

From henceforth on, all doomscrolling shall be done outside!

Hopefully, that will help turn the doomscrolling into actually creating something.
